Recycling Programs
Every Advance Auto Parts store serves as a community recycling center, accepting consumers’ used vehicle batteries and motor oil free of charge. The program has been extremely successful collecting more than 26 million gallons of used motor oil and millions of batteries for recycling from its nationwide network of over 2,700 stores.

Battery Recycling

Advance Auto Parts is proud to be partners with Johnson Controls in an effort to recycle lead-acid batteries. Advance Auto Parts will accept, free of charge, any lead-acid battery for recycling. Advance Auto Parts has collected used batteries for over 50 years, and is currently partnering with Johnson Controls.

According to statistics compiled by Battery Council International and the Institute for Scrap Recycling Industries, lead-acid batteries continue to top the list as the nation's most recycled consumer product. Virtually 100 percent of the lead and plastic in lead-acid batteries is reclaimed through recycling, and then manufactured into new batteries with the reclaimed materials.

Johnson Controls takes 100% responsibility to ensure every battery picked up is recycled on behalf of their customers and complies with all regulations.

Oil Recycling

Advance Auto Parts encourages consumers to protect natural resources and underground drinking water supplies by properly disposing of used motor oil at public collection centers or any Advance Auto Parts store. The company continually looks for opportunities to increase the collection and recycling of used oil. In Florida, Advance Auto Parts joined forces with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to launch Bring Every Quart Back!, a public awareness campaign to increase Floridians' awareness about used oil disposal and recycling. In Alabama, Advance Auto Parts worked with Project R.O.S.E. (Recycled Oil Saves Energy) to increase the proper disposal and recycling of used motor oil throughout the state.

Another program we are proud to support is the Safety-Kleen Corporation's oil recycling program. It's estimated that over 200 million gallons of used motor oil are improperly disposed of by do-it-yourself mechanics each year. Advance Auto Parts encourages consumers to bring their used oil to any Advance Auto Parts store for recycling. Once recycled, the used oil can be processed to make new fuel or refined into new base oils for lubricants.
